You finally decided that you wanted to grab a guitar a start to play. Maybe you thought it looked cool or would help you catch the eye of that someone special, Whatever your reason good for you. Glad to have you onboard and we look forward to helping you with whatever advice we can give. Now every person that ever decided to grab a guitar has been right where you are at some point. (Can you picture Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix as a beginner? It’s true both of them at some point were a beginner just like you.)
Just like every wannabe guitar player before you who decides to start playing, there’s a good chance you feel a bit intimidated and overwhelmed by many of the things related to guitar. We all know that their is an enormously large amount of gear and products to choose from. We also know that resources explaining guitar in the beginning phases of playing are few and far between. The process of getting started is not as hard as you may think. It’s a fun, challenging and at times frustrating journey but it is well worth it.
The truth is I remember picking up my first guitar around 15 years old. I will be 54 soon. I had a ton of questions and they were all answered by my stepfather who had been playing for probably 20 years before meeting my mother. I was lucky to have this great resource. To be honest I miss him because I still have many guitar related questions that I am sure he could answer for me. Fortunately he did set me up with a great support network of other guitarists that I can ask.
What sparked Guitar Goldmine?
I was reading some guitar related groups on a social networking site and saddened to see guitar players who had been playing for a long time making fun of the new guys who were only asking basic questions. It honestly hurt me to think that these guys were not willing to help encourage a new group of guitarists along. These new guitar players are the future of our instrument and they can’t help what they don’t know. They would much rather see this kid (presumably) give up and become a DJ or rapper than to take the time to mentor or help him. This is in my honest opinion why guitar players and actual instrument players in general are fast becoming a dying breed. Why put forth the effort and make a serious commitment when others will laugh at you when in a couple months you can be an expert doing something that doesn’t require that commitment. I choked on my anger for a few days when the idea for this web site came to me.
It is my sincere hope that I can help you the “fledgling” guitar player grow and become a seasoned picker. Maybe someday one of you will look back on this site with a great fondness. Maybe some of you will send someone else here to help them. It is my sincere hope that guitar playing will not die out in favor of the very popular electronic music coming out today. The journey that is the guitar is so worth it. My guitar has been with me through every phase in my life and helped me through some tough times. It’s also been a great way to have a lot of fun.
